Midnight and Protofire team up to accelerate programmable data protection for real-world apps

SAN FRANCISCO, California — June 19, 2026 — Midnight Foundation, an organization dedicated to advancing the development, adoption, and real-world impact of Midnight, today announced a collaboration with Protofire to help advance the ecosystem tools and product primitives that make privacy practical, composable, and usable in production.

Public blockchains created a new default for software: verify everything. But many real businesses and user-facing products cannot afford a world where every relationship, balance, supplier, payroll, and strategy is permanently legible to anyone with a block explorer. The result is a quiet trade-off that teams make every day: either stay transparent and leak critical data, or move the most valuable workflows off-chain and lose composability.

Midnight is built for teams that do not want to choose between utility and confidentiality. Its approach is not “hide everything”; it is programmable data protection with selective disclosure, so applications can keep sensitive data protected while still proving what must be proven to operate, integrate, and comply. That design enables a new kind of apps where privacy is built in, not added later as a workaround.

“Developers are ready to build the next generation of applications, but they need privacy that works at the protocol level, not as an afterthought,” said Fahmi Syed, President at Midnight. “Midnight is designed to make privacy programmable, so teams can protect sensitive data and metadata while still proving what needs to be proven. The outcome is straightforward: applications that are privacy-enhancing by design, interoperable by default, and capable of operating in real-world environments without compromising on utility or trustlessness.”

Under the agreement, Protofire will support Midnight’s ecosystem growth through engineering, product development, and operational support, including work across core apps and tools, privacy-preserving components and cryptographic services (such as proof-generation frameworks and trusted execution environments), and the productionization of ecosystem tooling. The focus is to help Midnight move faster from “capability” to “adoption”, with building blocks that teams can actually deploy.

“Privacy only matters if it survives contact with production requirements: integrations, UX constraints, performance targets, and real operational risk,” said Luis Medeiros, Venture Studio Owner at Protofire. “This collaboration is about shipping the primitives and tooling that let builders deliver privacy-aware apps without rewriting the world from scratch.”

For builders and operators, the end state is simple: less time wrestling with bespoke privacy plumbing, more time shipping differentiated products. Midnight’s model gives developers the ability to decide what stays confidential, what becomes provable, and what can be selectively disclosed, based on the needs of the application and its users.

More details about developer tooling and ecosystem updates will be shared through Midnight channels.

About Midnight Foundation

The Midnight Foundation is an organisation dedicated to advancing the development, adoption, and real-world impact of the Midnight network, the privacy enhancing blockchain project developed by Shielded Technologies. Designed for confidential smart contracts, Midnight enables censorship-resistant yet compliant decentralised applications. It leverages zero-knowledge proofs and a cooperative tokenomics architecture – with NIGHT as the utility token and DUST as the shielded capacity resource – to deliver a powerful combination of privacy, security, and decentralization.
