About the Project
The official Aragon DAO Payroll decentralized app promotes automated management of payments. Through the dapp, DAO members can manage and expect payments to arrive at an agreed time. User feedback was integrated to create and improve tools for building new types of organizations with the Aragon stack, as well as to improve user and developer experience.

During an in-depth discovery phase between Protofire and Aragon’s core operations team, we analyzed the growing complexity of payroll management across their expanding DAO ecosystem. As Aragon surpassed 2,000 active DAOs and approached $1B in assets under management, a series of recurring pain points emerged. These included inconsistent payment timelines, fragmented workflows across wallet tools, lack of bulk and multi-token support, and a heavy reliance on manual processes.
These challenges weren’t unique to Aragon - they reflected a broader industry pattern where decentralized teams struggled to align operational scalability with contributor satisfaction and financial accuracy. However, the scale and mission of Aragon demanded a solution tailored to its ecosystem. The analysis revealed that without a purpose-built payroll layer, contributor onboarding would continue to suffer, administrative costs would remain high, and confidence in DAO infrastructure could erode.
This joint diagnostic process laid the foundation for a solution that would not only address immediate inefficiencies, but also evolve with the future needs of decentralized organizations.
Protofire developed the official Aragon DAO Payroll dApp to support automated and decentralized payroll management for DAOs. The solution enables:
