The Graph Migration

This guide will cover everything you need about The Graph migration from Ethereum Mainnet to Arbitrum One.

First of all, what’s The Graph?

The Graph is a decentralized protocol that plays a crucial role in the blockchain ecosystem. It enables the indexing and querying data from various blockchains, functioning similarly to how search engines index and search the web. This is particularly important for developers building decentralized applications (dApps), allowing them to access blockchain data efficiently.

And why is it migrating?

While The Graph efficiently indexes and queries blockchain data, its performance is closely tied to the underlying blockchain it operates on. Ethereum’s scalability challenges can impact the speed and cost-effectiveness of applications using The Graph. The introduction of Arbitrum as a Layer 2 solution presents a significant opportunity for The Graph users, offering a more efficient and cost-effective environment without compromising on the security and decentralization that Ethereum provides.

Should YOU migrate?

Absolutely! Arbitrum offers enhanced efficiency, lower transaction costs, and higher throughput than Ethereum mainnet.

If you’re a delegator with a stake delegated to any indexer (including ours), you should migrate ASAP! The Graph is in the final phases of the migration. Therefore, only 5% of the rewards are in Ethereum, with the other 95% already going to Arbitrum.

And how is the migration process?

For delegators ready to migrate to Arbitrum, The Graph already provides specialized tools to do it. This is the process!

1. Access The Graph’s Explorer

Start by visiting The Graph’s explorer website on the Ethereum Network. This is the central hub for managing your activities within The Graph network.

2. Connect Your Wallet

You will find an option to connect your wallet in the top right corner of the page.

Click on this and follow the prompts to connect the wallet containing your current Ethereum network delegation securely.

3. Reviewing Your Current Delegation

After connecting your wallet, click the menu icon in the upper right corner. From the dropdown menu, select ‘Overview’. This action directs you to a page in The Graph displaying the general statistics and the status of your current activity.

4. Initiating Migration

Look for a notification or an alert related to the migration process on the' Overview' page.

This notification includes an option labelled ‘Transfer Delegation’ indicating the start of the migration process.

5. Transferring to Arbitrum

Upon clicking ‘Transfer Delegation’, you will be redirected to the migration interface.

Here, you will see that the ‘Receiving Arbitrum One Wallet Address’ field is pre-filled. This address should match the one you use in your Ethereum wallet, ensuring a seamless delegation transfer. IMPORTANT: verify that this address is correct, as it is crucial for successfully transferring your asset!

6. Completing the Migration

Follow the remaining steps as guided by The Graph’s migration tool.

This may include confirming the transaction on your wallet and any other verification processes required. Once you initiate the transfer, you can track the progress directly through The Graph’s interface. After the migration is complete, your delegation will be on Arbitrum!

Hope you like it!

Migrating your stake to Arbitrum is a strategic move for delegators in The Graph network, promising improved transaction efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This shift is not just about immediate gains but also about future-proofing your investments in a rapidly evolving blockchain ecosystem. By transitioning to Arbitrum, you opt for lower fees and faster transactions, which can directly impact your staking returns.
